Build Up your most Holy Faith by Praying in the Spirit!
I wanted to tell you something that I believe is very important for us today. We all want the anointing on our prayer life, that is the presence and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Prayer, spending time with the Lord, is what opens up your relationship with the Lord. But . . . when you pray in your “prayer language” everything shifts. It’s like an empowerment from within that generates strength in your being. It’s also like your spirit-man and the Holy Spirit are praying together totally engaged in what you are saying and doing!
The word of God in Jude 1:20 says, “Build up your most Holy Faith by praying in the Spirit!” As a matter of fact, that was what the Apostle Paul said, and then he said, “I pray in the Spirit more than you all”! I Corinthians 14:18 It was the Holy Spirit building him up with revelation through praying in his prayer language. It’s no wonder he had so much revelation!
If you will lean not to your own understanding, but put your trust in the leading of the Holy Spirit when you pray in your prayer language, you will make a difference!
“Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
In all your ways (including how you pray in the spirit.) know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-7 Amplified Bible
Acknowledging the Holy Spirit is the key. Always invite the Holy Spirit to lead your prayer time. Always ask Him for help and understanding. He will pour into you whatever it is you are needing. He is perfect in all His ways. When He leads you, follow.
As many of us know, your prayer language can change. It’s not structured to one dialect. One day it can have a nice easy flow to it, and the next day it could sound like you are from a foreign country. Your prayer language could have only one syllable, or it could sound like a whole language. Don’t stop or quench something new, because it is not something you expect.
“Thank (God) in everything (no matter what the circumstances may be (even in your prayer language), be thankful and give thanks), for this is the will of God for you (who are) in Christ Jesus (the Revealer and Mediator of that will). Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the (Holy) Spirit. Do not spurn the gifts and utterances of the prophets (do not depreciate prophetic revelations nor despise inspired instruction or exhortation or warning).” I Thessalonians 5:18-19
Musicians, Singers, and Dancers, let’s think out of the box!
One of my favorite scriptures is Ephesians 5:17-20
“Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is. Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the (Holy) Spirit. Speaking out to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offering praise with voices (and instruments) and making melody with all your heart to the Lord. At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.”
I am a musician, and I consider the sound I make with my instrument an expression of worship, and an extension of my prayer language. It is a prayer language that I use. It is an anointing and prophetic gifting that I carry.
I want to encourage you musicians to start thinking out of the usual music theory structure you have learned. If you are not careful, it could hold back your freedom to flow in the anointing.
There is a talent for playing without music. The world calls it called improv, or improvision. But there is also a flow of improv that is by the leading of the Holy Spirit. It is the anointing. It’s the leaning into Him that allows the Holy Spirit to flow through you. Invite the Holy Spirit to breath through you into your instrument. Invite Him to take over your hands and fingers. It has become such a part of my life and I have done it for so many years that the Holy Spirit and I are like one when I play.
There is a scripture that says, “Blessed be the Lord, my Rock and my keen and firm Strength, Who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight. My Steadfast Love and my Fortress, my High Tower and my Deliverer, my Shield and He in Whom I trust and take refuge, Who subdues my people (enemies) under me (my feet). Psalm 144:1-2
Allow the anointing of the Holy Spirit to take you somewhere new, to inspire you in a new direction. Let me put it to you this way, you can keep the potential of your anointing held back, by not pursuing a new Spirit movement concerning the sounds that you make, not only in a group, but even more so alone.
When you practice, ask for the anointing and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Let your practice time become a worship session, and allow the Holy Spirit to flood you with His presence. In essence that is where the anointing comes from. The anointing comes from being in His presence. And His presence comes when you open your heart to Him.
“For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit (by the Holy Spirit within me) prays, but my mind is unproductive (it bears no fruit and helps nobody). Then what am I to do? I will pray with my spirit (by the Holy Spirit that is within me), with my mind and understanding; I will sing with my spirit (by the Holy Spirit that is within me), but I will sing (intelligently) with my mind and understanding also.” I Corinthians 14:14-15 Amplified Bible
Singers, when you vocalize and practice, ask for the anointing and the leading of the Holy Spirit on your vocal cords and in the sound you make. Invite the anointing oil of the Holy Spirit to lubricate your vocal cords. Ask Him to anoint you to sing in a way that glorifies Him and releases His presence to others. It is the presence of God that changes the atmosphere and touches the hearts of others. Be prepared for where He wants to take you in worship and in ministry. This will cause a shift in your gifting to sing. You will find yourself making a difference in others’ lives.
Dancers, when you practice, especially new moves, ask for the anointing and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Your gift is incredible and is needed to be explored in the body of Christ. Be the example of what the anointing looks like in dance: expressive, pure, and of a good report. Make sure the moves you do, give glory to God. There is a thin line of being expressive and then being provocative. You want to usher in the presence of God, not something else. It is a true Holy Spirit led anointing that allows the new movements you do to break the strongholds of confinement and bring freedom into the atmosphere! It’s powerful! It’s powerful in worship, and it’s powerful in warfare.
“Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her, with tambourines and dancing.” Exodus 25:20
“Let them praise His name in chorus and choir and with the (single or group) dance! Let them sing praises to Him with the tambourine and lyre!” Psalm 149: 3
All of these things I’ve mentioned are not just about prophecy, but it’s all about worship! He deserves our worship! And we are it! If we, His people don’t worship Him, who will? I wrote a song years ago that said, “No rock is going to cry out for me! No rock is going to sing my praise! No rock is going to take my place before the King of Kings!”
It’s about vocalizing our song, and it’s about making melodies from our instruments and our hearts to the Lord, and it’s about moving with our bodies in new meaningful ways that flood us with His presence, flood us with His revelation, and flood us with His power!
Break out of the box of confinement and let the Holy Spirit take you into new dimensions of His presence in prayer and in worship! Let the new sound and the new movement in this new era come forth!
“But as for you, the anointing (that is the sacred appointment, and the unction) which you received from Him abides (permanently) in you; (so) then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must abide in (live in, never depart from) Him (being rooted in Him, knit to Him), just as (His anointing) has taught you (to do).” 1 John 2:27 Amplified Bible
Be encouraged. The anointing and your personal relationship with the Lord is worth the effort. You can make a difference by simply inviting the Holy Spirit and following Him.
